Well, the gyu-don matsuri ends tomorrow. One thing’s for sure; I ate too much of the stuff this last week.

I have seen this going down out in Nerima-ku where I work. It looked like a lot of fun and I stopped by one evening to have a beer and some chicken on a stick. One of more cute and friendly students(don`t worry I did not do anything with her)took me to the area in which all the food booths where set up. I had a good time. Man! People in Nerima-ku can really drink.

Wow, I’ll have to hit sukiya this week!
I’m a Matsuya man, myself, though. I lived off their 290 yen curry for months when I first arrived here.

Cheese curry sounds like a plan!

Top-of-the-mountain-craving: tonkatsu. Bowls of steaming white rice, and a big slab of the tonks, preferably washed down with a nama or two..

Yeah, it’d be nice to throw into the LA fast food mix, but I love hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints so much that even if there were Sukiyas in LA, I’d be giving them a miss for some place with killer Tacos Al Carbon.

@Shane:
Liked the udon there, but it doesn’t do the trick for me when I’m really starving. Good lunch on a hot summer day when you don’t want to do the gyu-don gut-bomb.

@Neil:
Taco rice, eh? Haven’t hit that part of the menu yet, but will be sure to do so in the near future since there’s a Sukiya right around the corner from my new place.

@Chris:
Yep. Just think of a hot bowl of cheese curry waiting for you next time you’re returning from one of your climbs. By the way, what kind of food do you usually think of when you’re hungry and cold on top of a mountain?

Careful… The Sukiya addiction is a powerful one that requires extra sit-ups three times a week.

I pass by Sukiya all the time but have never given it a shot. You’ve won me over, Billy! I’ve got my eye on that cheese curry, too…

As for Nakau, I’ve only been in there once, but the employees are either telepathic or I had the look of a man that seriously needed a beer — I got my curry and beer tickets from the vending machine, and the scant few seconds later I was taking a seat at the counter, a beer was being placed into my hands! Rock.

Nakau’s alright. There’s one right across the street from the Sukiya in my neighborhood. But, the 3-cheese curry at Sukiya is something you don’t find at many other fast-food joints.

We have a Sukiya over the road from work. When the Taco Rice came out it was done as a promotion with a buddy of coke …. and i LOVED IT. I can’t drink the green tea, it’s terrible so getting food i liked and a drink as a set was great.

Now the Taco Rice is still on the menu it’s just not done with the coke.
