There's a great burger joint near Nishi-Ogikubo station called Village Vantive (or something like that). Walk out the south exit (not sure it is the south exit but it is the exit to your right when you exit the gates from the trains). Walk down the steps and in front of you but a little bit to your left is a narrow alley/street. Walk down that alley and it is on your right about 6-7 stores. The outside is done up to look like something out of the American old west (wagon wheel, hitching post, etc.)

The cheeseburger at TY Harbor is also worth a try (I think, not having grown up in cheeseburger-orientated surroundings).

Looks better than Sasebo style place in Nanba, Osaka I reviewed a few weeks ago. Sasebo burgers are way overrated IMHO.

If you haven't heard of it, there is also Firehouse in Hongo. From Hongo san-chome station, walk back towards Tokyo Dome. I've not had Zat's, but at this point, Firehouse's is the best burger I've had in Japan. Firehouse is more expensive though. Weekday lunch special comes in at just over 1000 yen for a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink. No drink set on the weekends.

I love this burger. There's one over in Kawasaki Station I used to go to. There are no refills unfortunately. I still prefer this burger

@Chris B:
It's funny, you know, I never found myself particularly craving a burger back home, but in Japan the cravings occur fairly regularly.

@Tornadoes:
Unfortunately, no free refills. It's rare for anyplace in Japan to give you a bargain for your money.

@Paul:
Yeah, the place is within walking distance of my apartment (if the weather's nice) but I just tried it last week. I'll have to go again soon, though. As for the beer, yeah, a great weekend beverage, particularly in the dog days of summer, but since I was a kid, it was always cola with the junk food. Guess old habits die hard.

@sixmats:
Bigger than MosBurger and much better-tasting, IMO. MosBurger is a decent alternative to MickeyD's, but come on!...this is a real burger.

Do they give free refills on the sodas? That soda looks way too small.
