I Own the Night

By Billy W 28 November 2009 13 Comments

I’m a creature of the night, and there’s no better place to take nighttime photos than Tokyo. I often find myself stalking in the dark, looking for shutterworthy moments.

If you’ve been to Minatomirai, you know Cosmo World.

Cosmo World
Is it just me, or does this hotel remind anyone else of the spaceship from 2001, A Space Odyssey?

This little one crept into town under cover of the night.

Sometimes a view from above is nice.

Shouldn’t you be in bed by now?

    Do you hear me Santa??

    ***Dear Santa,
    I would obviously never use such a tone when requesting a gift or talking to you unless while joking, such as in this post. Please give my regards to Mrs. Claus.***

    Yours Truly,

    Should be some great year-end camera deals. Mr. Claus might not be aware, so email him an online advert for Bic Camera.

    @-Paul:
    I’m up for Imanari anytime.

    I really like the 4th picture. Great street photography.

    I left Tokyo before I got a DSLR, but do people look at you with strange looks while you’re trying to shoot?

    I’ve gotten pretty good at going unnoticed, but occasionally, I do get caught. In those instances, I pan around as if I’m looking for a good shot :oops:

    Nice shots, indeed. What kind of camera do you have? I can never get motion shots to turn out nice like that…

    The morning sometimes owns me after an evening bender.

    @Blue Shoe:
    Using a Nikon D60. The motion shots work best for me if I pan with the subject locked in for at least a couple of seconds. With just a quick pan and lock, they don’t come out well.
    The truth is, though, for every 25 or 30 shots I take, only 1 is worth keeping. Maybe that’s on a good day (or night) ;)

    Thanks! Yeah, No. 4 was a bit experimental for me, but it worked.

    @Rosida:
    Thank you, thank you. Merry Christmas to you, too. The weather’s nice in Tokyo today, but I bet it’s really hot in Jakarta right now.
